Christ the Lord Is Risen Today (2024)
Our local congregation has a wealth of treble instrumentalists, mostly violinists and flautists, but a dearth of lower-register instruments. Just before the pandemic in 2020, my wife suggested I arrange Christ the Lord is Risen Today for instruments in a higher register, giving each member of the Quartet moments to shine. Of course, Covid canceled the performance. However, there was interest in “resurrecting” it for Easter 2022 and it rose to the occasion as a glorious Triumphant Romp. I subsequently (2024 update) have made Parts available for multiple Quartet-Ensembles [details at bottom of this page].
Part A – Flute & Violin
Part B – Flute, Oboe, Violin
Part C – Oboe, Clarinet (Bb & A), Violin, Viola
Part D – Clarinet (Bb & A), Bassoon, Violin, Viola, Cello

Anticipated Ensembles: This was originally written in 2020 for 2 Flutes and 2 Violins, and it work well as a Quartet for Treble Instruments. With the additional Parts, more traditional ensembles can play this piece such as Wind Quartet (Flute, Oboe, Clarinet & Bassoon) or String Quartet (2 Violins, Viola & Cello). However, since the lower Parts (C & D) are written to interplay with the higher lines, more unusual quartets could be considered such as Flute, Oboe and 2 Clarinets. To allow for personal preferences, I have made both Bb and A Clarinet parts available. Last, most lines in this arrangement can be played an Octave lower per preference, for example the opening Viola (Part C) line.
