Hebrews 11:1 Now faith is the assurance of what we hope for and the certainty of what we do not see.
John 3:8 The wind blows where it wishes. You hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.
The spiritual power that is faith moves and prompts us in unseen ways. Yet, it is very real. This piece explores these concepts. It could be developed either for church choir or as a piece for children.
Lyric Development:
Verse 1 introduces the subjective concept that faith can be felt, even when it cannot be seen. The Chorus takes the opposite approach by stating we can clearly see the effects of faith in how we interact with God. Verse 2 develops the idea of faith as an action. We see a leaf lifted heavenward (like a prayer) by an unseen power. Verse 3 reminds us of the power and strength that faith can have in troubling times. There are three themes within the Chorus and the listener’s focus is redirected with each verse. Verse 1 draws attention to the Chorus’ description of Faith as unseen, Verse 2 to Faith as action or movement, and Verse 3 to Faith as a power, deepening our appreciation and understanding of the faith-filled statement within the Chorus. This culminates in the Outro where the observation “as I live my life by faith” is changed to a faith-driven determination: “I will live my life by faith.”
